This week, the Société Macdonald-Cartier Society issued statements to witness the creation of a new Program in honour of Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess and Cambridge, and to acknowledge what was a very successful Royal Tour.
This week’s statements:
Statement on Parks Canada Youth Ambassadors Program
In Calgary, on July 7th, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the creation of a Parks Canada Youth Ambassadors Program to honour the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Parks Canada’s creation.
The Société Macdonald-Cartier Society welcomes this new program, which will inspire young Canadians from across the country to enjoy Canada’s great outdoors. Each year, two youth ambassadors will travel across Canada to visit our national historical sites, national parks, and marine conservation areas. They will share this experience through social media – as well as encouraging Canadian youth to share their own experiences. Their effort to connect with Canadian youth at school, in the community, and through Parks Canada will create greater sense of belonging, and aligns well with the youth initiatives that Their Royal Highnesses support.
Statement on the end of highly successful Royal Tour
Yesterday, July 8th marked the end of the nine-day Tour of Canada by Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. It was a privilege for Canada to host our very first official Royal Tour. Throughout the Tour, Canadians from across the country expressed their profound attachment to the Crown of Canada and provided The Duke and Duchess with the special hospitality and warmth reserved for members of our Royal Family.
During their Royal Tour, Their Royal Highnesses had the opportunity to meet and exchange with Canadians, and to experience the diversity and natural beauty of our great country. Their Tour took them from the National Capital Region to Quebec, Prince Edward Island, and the Northwest Territories, and ended in Calgary.
Without a doubt, this Tour is the beginning of a beautiful and special relationship between Canadians and the Royal Couple. The Société Macdonald-Cartier Society looks forward to growing the understanding that young Canadians have of the Crown, and we hope the Duke and Duchess will soon return to experience more of our splendid country.
In the upcoming weeks, Société Macdonald-Cartier Society will upgrade its website to include more interactivity and social media tools. We are also taking the necessary steps to launch a newsletter, to which members will be able to subscribe directly from our website. Finally, we will complete the transition to a Facebook Page that we promised some time ago.
Finally, we are again taking the opportunity to call out for volunteers. If you share our our passion for history and civic engagement, we invite you to join our volunteer team. We’re looking to recruit about 7-9 new people to join our volunteer staff team and help out in the following roles:
- Volunteer/membership recruitment;
- Our partnership program;
- Our other programs;
- Fund-raising/grant-writing;
- Our weekly newsletter;
- Research as needed.
The previously announced volunteer position for public relations/communications has been filled. We are also looking for regional/city coordinators.
Sincerely,
- Immanuel, Walker, James and Jermyn
